How Students are Helping Out in the Time of COVID-19

Here are a few more snapshots of what our students to help out during the COVID-19 pandemic:

A group of 20 Sage Hill students who call themselves “The Masketeers” have also been working on a major effort on GoFundMe called “Support For Relief: Medical Supplies” to collect money to purchase crucial medical supplies for donation. So far, they have raised $2,450 and sent about 500 masks to hospitals and senior centers.

“Everyone, parents and students, have been extremely helpful and collaborative when working on this project,” said freshman Ingrid Luo. “We are very grateful!”

Freshman Sacha Baniassad has created a fundraiser/virtual food drive to fight hunger and help people in need during this time. All donations will go to the Community Action Partnership of Orange County and put to good use in the area. Please reach out to him if you are interested in hearing more!

A couple weeks ago, freshman Harris Zhang donated N95 masks to nurses at the Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and doctors at the Long Beach Regional Physician Medical Group. In addition to the masks, he also made inspirational and encouraging appreciation cards for all the medical professionals, who said they were deeply touched by his amazing generosity and creativity. After this original donation, his support was sought out again, and the Lakewood Regional Medical Center also received a box of masks from Zhang and a friend, along with appreciation letters.

Senior Jackie Ni has recently created a new website called Supply Crate that allows individuals, groups and businesses to make charitable donations to institutions to aid in the fight against COVID-19. Institutions such as medical facilities, police stations, fire stations, senior care centers and others can register on the site with their specific needs. Donors can find information about the places where they want to send donations and generate a unique QR label to track their donations. The site also keeps a real-time record of all donations and promotes these donations on our various social media outlets.

We’re so proud of all these efforts, and we love your Lightning spirit!
