Featured Alumni Q&A: Kelly Crowder (Carpenter) '09

United States Naval Academy, Mechanical Engineering
Oak Harbor, WA

What is your proudest accomplishment since graduating from Sage Hill School?
My proudest accomplishment is being a commissioned officer in the United States Navy and earning my wings as a Naval Aviator. Currently I fly the EP-3 for the Navy and I enjoy every minute of it.

What about your experience at Sage Hill prepared you for what you are doing now?
Sage Hill instilled the work ethic I used throughout college and then flight school after joining the Navy. This work ethic allowed me to succeed throughout my career so far and I’m excited to see what’s next.

What about your Sage Hill experience impacted the person you are today? This could be a favorite class, a person, a club, etc:
Sage Hill creates the ability for us as students to believe we can accomplish anything. All of the opportunities afforded me throughout my time at Sage Hill pushed me to reach above and beyond what I believed I could do. I’m thankful for the amazing college counselors and teachers that helped me get into USNA leading to my Navy Career. I couldn’t have done it without them.

If you could share one piece of advice to current Sage Hill students, what would it be?
I would say always push yourself in all your classes and extracurriculars. You never know what doors will open if you do the best you possibly can!
