Avalon defeats Sage

With only 14 boys who showed up at Avalon, Sage lost a heartbreaker. Giving credit where credit is due, all of the guys who showed up should be given a medal for pure heart. Those individuals are: Justin Barbour, Max Ellison, TJ Danner, David Fenner, Ford Hanour, Alex Raymond, Craig Jackson, Sam Simon, Oliver Tomson, Drew Wheeler, Sammy Witte, Jack Markman, Alec Van Hoogenstyn, and Maosen Ye. All of these young men sacrificed to make this game close. Jack Markman had to give up his jersey so as to allow another player to play in the game. That's a message about "team."  I have to say that the 14 who showed up for Saturday's game truly played an inspirational game, despite a terrible field, and some rather questionable calls by the officials.

Since we were short handed, we had most of our guys playing the entire game, several of whom played most of the game the day before in our victory against El Dorado. David Fenner, who went down twice with injuries, got back up and gutted it out, and played hard the whole game. David also recorded 1 goal and hustled all over the field. Oliver Tomson stepped up big time, picking up a loose ball rebound and scoring his first goal of the season. Two freshman, two new players to the sport, and two great kids to have on this team.

Our offense was led by Max Ellison, with 6 goals, 2 assists, and won multiple if not every face-off. Sammy Witte scored 1 goal and had 1 assist, as did Alex Raymond. Drew Wheeler played really hard and continues to show great promise for our future. Drew has great energy and real athleticism. And Mr. Versatile, aka Barbour, also logged a goal, to go along with an assist and an overall good game. All of the defense stepped up big time with Craig, Alec, Ford and TJ, doing the job, hustling all over the field. Our turnovers on clears was minimal and that is a tribute to the D-poles and our goalie. Speaking of our goalie, Sam Simon had 23 saves on 55 shots on goal. Hustle plays go to the entire roster of players.

This game, along with the Woodbridge game, could have easily gone the other way and so once again, our won-loss record is not a true measure of how well our boys are playing. All of the parents whose sons played on Saturday should be proud of the effort their sons showed out there. And finally, many thanks to the parents who were there to show support for the team.
