The Lightning faced a Division IV team-- University High School-- for the second time ever. This was an extremely exciting game to watch, as both teams were determined, physical, skillful, and well matched. The grueling competition ended in a 2-2 tie, despite the fact that Sage Hill had played a tiring game the night before.
Thank you to the many fans who braved the extremely cold weather to cheer for our squad. It was definitely a fun game to watch.
In minute 39 the opponent scored off a breakaway. It was a frustrating situation, but as usual the Lightning did not give up. In minute 70, Sage Hill scored an equalizer. Taylor passed the ball to Colton, who then assisted Lion’s beautiful goal. One minute later, just as we celebrated the tie, we scored on ourselves, unfortunately. The score was now 1-2.
However in minute 74, Ben Capaldi received the ball in the middle. He shipped it to well- positioned Colton, who drove it into the net. The excitement of the Sage Hill fans and players was palpable. We desperately wanted to win. The game ended at the 2-2 tie, but it was a victory for the Lightning in the sense that we proved that we do not ever give up, and we are not intimidated by a fierce opponent.
We have a busy week ahead of us. League games begin tomorrow. We’ll face Capo Valley Christian on Tuesday, then return home to host both St. Margaret’s and the Alumni on Thursday and Friday at 5:00 respectively.
