Message from College Counseling Center

Happy fall from the College Counseling Center!

Summer seemed to pass in the blink of an eye, and it’s hard to believe that September is almost over. In the past few weeks, our office has crossed paths with many of you, whether it was during the New Parent Orientation, our Senior College Night or our Junior College Night presentations. And in about a week, we’ll host our Sophomore College Night (October 6th). Meanwhile, our seniors have been checking in with their College Counselors, working on their college lists, and keeping us busy with a steady supply of draft essays and applications to read.

In the midst of it all, I am happy to introduce the newest member of our college counseling team, Nicole Thompson. A graduate of both Georgetown and Columbia universities, Nicole comes to us from New York City, where she most recently served as a Senior Assistant Director of Admission for Columbia University. She brings a wealth of admission experience, and we feel incredibly fortunate to have her here. Please join me in giving Nicole a warm welcome to our Sage Hill community.

As we move into the heart of the fall, the College Counseling Center will continue to be a hub of activity, as we welcome college representatives to campus. October is the peak season, with some days seeing over six different colleges come through our doors. (Click here to view a calendar.)  It’s always impressive to see our seniors sit down with representatives and have thoughtful conversations about the colleges as well as themselves. As active and introspective thinkers and learners, our seniors have come to embody Sage Hill’s core values. And admission officers have taken note. Time and time again we hear that Sage Hill is one of their favorite schools to visit. And it’s no surprise. Our seniors have taken the time to reflect on who they are and what they value. They have, in turn, applied this to their college searches.

As we enter the thick of the application season, we are proud to work with our seniors and shepherd them through the process. Through it all, we continue to steadfastly uphold Sage Hill’s values within the college counseling process. We care deeply about our students and seek to help them find strong matches, places that both nurture them and stretch them – socially, intellectually and emotionally. Here’s to another year of journeys and discoveries!

Sincerely,

Sonya K. Smith

Director of College Counseling
