Sage Hill Edges Santa Ynez, 9-9, 78 to 66 in games
Sage’s number two singles player, Troy Astorino, had to win the his last match in order for the Lightning to win on games. At 3-3 against Juan Ferrer in a battle of seniors, Astorino won 12 of the next 14 points to take the set 6-3 and the match for Sage 9-9. 78-66 in games.
Newport Beach, CA – Sage was down 2-4 after the first round, 5-7 after the second round, then tied the match at 9-9 to win on games 78-66. Sage’s number 2 doubles team of Andrew Yun and Sean Batten swept and Sages number one doubles team rebounded after losing their opening match to take the next two to give the Lightning 5 points. The singles was totally dominated by the Pirates as their number one swept and their number two took two. Sage swept Santa Ynez’s number three singles player to give Sage four points in singles.
Alex Koeberle, Sage, lost to Seeman, 3-6; lost to Ferrer, 6-7; defeated Herman, 6-2. Troy Astorino, Sage, won 6-0, lost 3-6, won 6-3. Kevin Wang, Sage, lost 2-6, won 6-0, lost 2-6.
Andrew Kirzweil/Alex Manolakas, Sage, lost to White/Cole, 4-6; defeated Collison/Deuts, 6-4, defeated Mann/Delunas, 6-0. Andrew Yun/Sean Batten, Sage, won 6-2, won 6-2, won 6-1. Greg Berchtold/Spenser Apramian, Sage, lost 4-6, lost 5-7, lost 1-6.
