Woddbridge defeats Sage in a tough match

Although the outcome doesn't reflect the effort our guys made out
there today, I cannot begin to tell how proud I am of the way our
guys played against Woodbridge. For those that don't know, the flu
or sick bug invaded our team and we were without two of our key
players, Frank Shapiro and Max Potkin. On top of that Max Ellison
was ill as was Mark Milner, Taylor Ross, Justin Barbour, and Brendan
Killaly. Worse yet, we had several guys go down with injuries,
including two of our D-pole defenders (fortunately, nothing serious
for all of them although concussions are nothing to be taken
lightly). Being short-handed and throwing different guys in
different positions was a true test of the character of this team.

Despite those setbacks, the score was still 3-2 with over half the
fourth quarter to play. The outcome of the game was far from being
decided. Quite frankly, our guys just ran out of gas, and the other
team got some shots on goal that found their way into the net. Did
we play our best game offensively or defensively? No, we did not,
but our guys never quit and that's the sign of a good team. I told
the guys I couldn't be any prouder of the way they sucked it up out
there today. In terms of stats, there's not much to account for, but
for this game, the true highlight to me was the heart and spirit of
these young men. They have nothing to be ashamed about and they
know, if the full Sage squad was there, the outcome would have been a
different story.
