Sage defeats San Fernando

On Thursday we played our first-round CIF playoff game at home against Fernando Valley Academy. They are ranked second in the Omega League. The game was a complete mismatch, for we overwhelmingly dominated the game and won 13-0 with three hat tricks by Lion Wintemute, Taylor Ross and Max Ellison. The Lightning took twenty-eight shots and nine corner kicks total. We received only one shot from the opponent.

The Lightning scored their first goal in minute 3 when Colton Gyulay was assisted by Taylor Ross. We ended our eventful scoring sequence in minute 79 when Co-Captain and (once again) Player of the Game Michael Bear scored just before the game ended.

Craig Jackson’s first appearance in weeks gave him a chance to stand in the goal and test his hip injury while Jake Blitzer was given a chance to play on the field. We have mostly healed from injuries and are poised to face CAMS (California Academy of Mathematics and Science).

The point of the game after the first half was to play two-touch keep away and to maintain ball possession. It was also an opportunity for our players to step up their fitness level.
Since the goals were so numerous, I will offer just a few highlights:
In minute 3, Taylor passed the ball to Colton Gyulay and goal!
In minute 10, right full back Alex Till sent a great long, precise ball to Taylor in the front. Taylor pushed it forward a few yards and placed it properly into the back of the net
In minute 25, Max scored off a rebound.
In minute 35, Nick Singarella made a great pass to Taylor. Taylor drove the ball forward and scored.
In minute 38, Nick took the ball away from a defender and passed it through to Colton. Colton finished it with great confidence.
In minute 40, Taylor made a pass to Colton and Colton assisted the goal made by Nick.
The first half ended with a 6-0 score and with no shots against our keeper.
In minute 43, Max took a throw-in into Lion for a goal.
Two minutes later, Max took the ball by himself into the goal.
In minute 46, Drew Wheeler sent a high driven ball to Lion for a goal.
Ten minutes later, Kam Fujii assisted Max to complete his hat trick.
In minute 65, Nick passed the ball to Kyle Simon and Kyle in turn fed Lion for his hat trick.
Shortly after, Max assisted Taylor for the third hat trick.
Finally, in minute 79, Michael took the ball by himself and scored.
