Sage Hill Spotlight: Robotics
Sage Hill Robotics offers students a unique opportunity to learn and dip their toe into several different industries at the same time. Students can gain knowledge in engineering, design and even business management.
Sage Hill Robotics even has a unique opportunity for students to choose to be a part of the Robotics Academic Team or the Robotics Club.
The difference between the two is largely the commitment, with the academic team meeting more often weekly in order to be ready for competition. The team participates in several different robotics competitions in what is called For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology (FIRST) -- a program that's sole purpose is to inspire young people to become science and technology leaders.
The Robotics Club, while closely related to the team, has slightly less of a time commitment but still acts as a space for students to explore STEM opportunities.
In both spaces, students are encouraged to use their gained knowledge creatively, compassionately and courageously by pushing them to solve problems at the crossroads of science and competition.
Students don't need to have any background in Robotics to join, faculty co-advisor Tovi Spero said.
"I want students to know that Robotics is for everyone,” he said. “You don't need to already know stuff. If you are interested, if you are even just the slightest bit curious -- that is exactly why I hope you come and see what Robotics is all about -- curiosity is powerful.”
If coding or building aren’t necessarily intriguing to students, Robotics offers non-technical roles as well.
