Boys' Cross Country Honored With State's Highest Collective Team GPA
The 2017-18 boys’ cross country team at Sage Hill School was recently awarded for maintaining the state’s highest collective team GPA (3.94) in the CIF State Academic Team Champions program.
“To my knowledge, this is the first team in school history to have received such an honor,” said Director of Athletics Megan Cid. “We will be hanging the banner in the Ube very soon.”
Since 1996, the CIF State Academic Team Champions program has honored teams statewide with the highest collective GPAs in their respective sport, according to Roger Blake, executive director of the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF). The GPAs are calculated on an un-weighted 4.0 scale. This year, banners were awarded to 33 teams in 30 different sports programs.
“We are so proud of our 2017-18 boys’ cross country student athletes who worked hard not only in their practices and meets, but also in the classroom. They are the true definition of student athletes, and I am thrilled that they are the recipients of such an important CIF award,” Cid said. “I also want to congratulate our head coach, Nate Miller, and his staff for their leadership in creating a culture of success in the program both on and off the course.”
