Haiku Contest Brings Out the Best in Sage Hill Students
Haikus penned by senior Connor Bock and sophomore Ashton Carroll were chosen as winners in this year’s Nicholas A. Virgilio Memorial Haiku Competition, which is co-sponsored by The Haiku Society of America. The competition, which is open to students in grades 7-12 from across the globe, received 3,000+ entries. Of those entries, more than 30 Sage Hill students were among 100 finalists.
“This is the seventh consecutive year Sage Hill students have been recognized in this prestigious event,” said Sage Hill English teacher Arlie Parker. “Our students crafted poems they will remember in years to come, writing about important experiences and bringing them to life for readers. I am proud of what our students have accomplished, and I am glad the judges appreciated their efforts.”
