Sage defeats El Dorado to improve league record

Once again, rebounding from their earlier defeat in the week, Sage proved to be tough when it counted. With many players still ill or injured, other Sage veterans and rookies stepped up in this game. Max Ellison had 3 goals and was 9 for 11 in face-offs. Frank Shapiro notched 2 goals, but our freshman and sophomores were the story, along with the ever reliable Sam Simon. Giving credit where credit is due, there were 29 shots on goal, and Sam had 17 saves.

Looking at the future of this team, Alex Raymond led all offensive players with 5 points logging 1 goal and 4 assists. Alex had a what I call a break out game for him, playing offense this year where last year he played D-pole. I have asked a lot of Alex and I will be asking more from him as this season and the future rolls on. Sammy Witte scored 1 goal and had 1 assist, and has shown great improvement from last year in stick skills and overall development. Sammy is another key cog in our game attack.

And Drew Wheeler, who never played lacrosse before, had a huge game, with 1 goal and was involved in at least 3 ground balls and hustle plays. David Fenner, another new player to the game, played very steady with 1 shot on goal, and 3 ground balls/hustle plays. These underclassman (including Frank Shapiro), along with Taylor Ross, Oliver Tomson, Conner Ascher, and several others, show great promise to the program. With added practice and learning how to play the game together, these kids will be able to compete in lacrosse for years to come.

Our defense is also led by several underclassmen, and their abilities showed up big time. TJ Danner and Alec Van Hoogenstyn had monster games, with TJ recording 7 grounds, 1 take-away, and 2 hustle plays. Alec had 4 ground balls, 1 take-away and 2 hustle plays. Ford Hanour, another newcomer to the game, had 2 groundballs and was involved in 2 hustle plays.

Our upper classmen, Craig Jackson, also known as Mr. Intensity, brings it every game. His desire is infectious, and Craig logged 2 ground balls, 1 take-away, 2 hustle plays, and also was 1 for 2 in face-offs. Michael Ramming, had another steady game with 3 ground balls and 2 hustle plays.

And finally, Justin Barbour, running all over the field, scored 1 goal, and was involved in several hustle plays. Our next game is Saturday, at Catalina against Avalon High School. Our guys are coming into this game very confident.
