Girls Empowerment Movement to Host Middle School Girls at Sage Hill

Sage Hill student leaders with the Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM) Service Learning group will host middle schoolers for the sixth annual GEMfest from 10:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturday, March 16.

GEMfest 2024 will feature keynote speaker Georgetta Foreman (Television Supervising Producer at Allen Media Group) and other notable panelists, including Faith E. Pinho (Staff Writer at Los Angeles Times) and Nadia O’Connor (Founder of Coconads, a women’s golf apparel line).

“We attended GEMfest as middle schoolers so it’s exciting to give back to our community,” GEMfest co-presidents Anne Chen and Riley Robinson said. “It’s really cool to see how we were in their shoes at one point and now we can help inspire them and make their transition to high school easier.”

The Girls Empowerment Movement (GEM) was founded in 2012 by a group of accomplished professional women dedicated to inspiring and empowering young girls to reach their full potential. GEM at Sage Hill was established during the 2017-2018 school year, with the first GEMfest held in the spring of 2018.

This year, GEMfest attendees will have an option of attending a Business/Entrepreneurship, Sustainability, News/Media, or STEM panel. Additionally, attendees will have a choice of two workshops on topics including magazine production, dance, self-defense, coding, leadership, and more.

Lunch will be provided, and each attendee will receive a swag bag with products graciously provided by sponsors. Parents are also welcome to attend a parent workshop during GEMfest focused on healthy relationships and supporting your middle school daughters' transition into high school.
