Sailing Team Takes Third in Rose Bowl Regatta
Over the weekend of January 6-7, the Sage Hill Sailing Team competed in the annual Rose Bowl Regatta in Long Beach.
The regatta is hosted by the USC sailing team and is different from other Pacific Coast Interscholastic Sailing Association regattas in that both colleges and high schools compete.
Within the high school division, 54 schools competed from all over the country. The Sage Hill team was represented by two boats competing in separate gold and bronze fleets.
In the gold fleet, juniors Jonathan Chance and Isabelle Meegan skippered, while senior Dylan Strode and sophomore Rowan Oliphant crewed.
Sophomore Darcy Chung and junior Joshua Cheadle skippered in the bronze fleet, while junior Austin Alexander and sophomore Yegor Polakoff crewed. Also, sophomore Ezugo Onyone stood in as a substitute crew in case the wind got heavy.
In the bronze fleet, Sage Hill came in third place out of 23 boats.
“It is an awesome accomplishment, especially considering the level of competition at this regatta,” Strode said.
