    Beril Tekin joined Sage Hill in 2017 as a science teacher. Mrs. Tekin most recently worked as a long-term substitute physics teacher at Mater Dei High School. She previously taught physics at Doga Schools in Istanbul, Turkey. She holds a bachelor’s degree in physics and a master’s degree in education from Istanbul University. She is fluent in Turkish and also has experience working in Robotics.

    Bio
     
    Mr. Thomassen joined the Sage Hill Science Department in 2003. A graduate of Newport Harbor High School and the University of California, San Diego, he taught chemistry at UCSD and at the University of San Diego before coming to Sage Hill. During his undergraduate years, he competed for four years on the UCSD men’s volleyball team and was the boys’ volleyball coach at Bishop’s School, an independent school in La Jolla. Mr. Thomassen also earned his master’s degree in organic chemistry at UCSD while conducting research in marine natural products chemistry at the Scripps Institute of Oceanography, under Dr. William Fenical. In the classroom, Mr. Thomassen has taught chemistry, AP Chemistry, physics, scientific inquiry, and started the forensic science class. Mr. Thomassen has also been the girls’ volleyball coach at Sage Hill since 2004.

    Assistant Director of the Sage Center for Service Learning and Internships
    Bio
     
    Verginie Touloumian joined Sage Hill in 2022. She initially served as Advancement Manager -- Events and Support/SHIP Coordinator. In 2024, she transitioned to full-time with the Sage Center as Assistant Director 
    for Service Learning and Internships. Touloumian worked previously as the Western region community outreach director for the Armenian National Committee of America and was also the executive director of Armenian Relief Society, Inc. She has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Woodbury University and a master’s degree in management and leadership from Pepperdine University.

    Ha Tran joined Sage Hill in 2021 as the HR/Payroll Specialist. She has more than 25 years of experience as a payroll specialist/administrator, working for companies such as Allergan, Karma Automotive and Meggitt-USA Services. Ms. Tran is also fluent in Vietnamese.
