Sage Opens Academy League Play with 14-4 Win

CIF D2 #6 ranked Sage Hill Girls Tennis Team began Academy League play with a 14-4 win over Whitney. The Lightning took the first round
6-0 and the second round 5-1 for an 11-1 score with 1 round remaining. Sage split the last round 3-3 for a final score of 14-4.
 
Sage's #1 player and last year's Academy League Singles MVP won two rounds 6-1 and 6-2. Celine Wang, playing #2 singles for Sage also won 2 rounds 6-2 and 6-4. Freshman Maya Byrd beat the #2 and #3, each 6-3, before losing to Whitney's #1, 5-7. Sage's Katelyn Harvey lost 5-7 while Stephanie Beder won 6-1 in the last singles round.
 
In doubles the Lightning's Marina Anderson/Isabella Deckey won 2 rounds, 6-4 and 6-0 before being subbed out. Tess Alexander/Crystal Yu went 1-1, winning 6-0 but losing to Whitney's #1 5-7. Connie Yu/Lauren Fishman played all 3 rounds at #3 doubles winning 6-0 and 6-0 before losing to Whitney's #1,
0-6. Abby Ruck/Amira Tarsadia won 6-1 and Poonam Patel/Crystal Yu won 6-1 in the final doubles round.
