Shaurya Mittal ’26 recently launched the podcast EcoTalks to engage fellow students about the challenges unleashed by climate change and possible technology-based solutions.
Shaurya has already been recognized for his environmental activism for developing EcoTakeOut, a smartphone app that empowers consumers to make educated decisions based on the environmental toll of ordering from their favorite restaurants. In 2022, Shaurya was named the winner of the 2022 Congressional App Challenge in California’s 47th District.
In the first episode of EcoTalks, Shaurya interviewed Jamie Kunze-Thibeau, his former environmental science teacher at The Pegasus School. The two dived into science education, including teaching children how their decisions impact the Earth’s interconnected systems. For Episode 2, he went on to interview Amit Sharma, CEO of AquaTrax, an Irvine-based software company that supports water districts and cities by using real-time customer data to detect costly water leaks.
Shaurya looks forward to releasing more episodes discussing novel ideas that can at least take a small bite out of the climate crisis.
“I feel like here at Sage Hill we’re always taught to be that agent of change we want to be in the world,” Shaurya said. “I think it really helps walk people through decisions. They don’t like being talked at. People aren’t naturally receptive to that. I think listening to the conversations paint a clearer picture about why these things are important.”
Shaurya encourages fellow students who are passionate about a sustainable future to get involved with his youth service group, EcoInnovators, or one of the other environmentally-minded clubs.
