Professional Football Player to Become Director of Boys' Athletics
Gregory "J.R" Tolver, formerly a wide receiver with the NFL's Dallas Cowboys, Carolina Panthers and Miami Dolphins, will lend his considerable expertise as Sage Hill's new Director of Boys' Athletics and Head Football Coach. J.R. brings more than five years of world class, professional-level experience to this position, as Jon Poffenberger, Sage Hill's previous Athletic Director transitions into his new role as Dean of School Life. This shift in personnel also results in the promotion of Megan Cid to a new position as Director of Girls' Athletics.
Once he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration from San Diego State University, J.R. was drafted as a fifth round pick to the Miami Dolphins where he trained for three wide receiver positions and mastered two different playbooks. After three seasons, he moved to the Carolina Panthers and worked with coaches to prepare Pro Bowl receivers, assuming responsibility for game preparation and film study. In 2005, J.R. joined the Dallas Cowboys and has since worked with the Calgary Stampeder and Los Angeles Avenger organizations, along with coaching football at Mira Mesa High School.
"We could not be more thrilled to have J.R. become our new Director of Boys' Athletics," notes Sage Hill Head of School Gordon McNeill. "He will be a tremendous role model for our student athletes as someone who has pursued and attained a dream and balanced it with an education and professional experience."
Megan Cid, the new Director of Girls' Athletics, was previously Assistant Athletic Director and Physical Education Teacher after serving as the JV Girls' soccer coach. She received her B.S. degree in Exercise and Sports Science from Vanguard University.
