The boys Varsity squad hosted Fairmont Preparatory School on December 18 and ended the game with a shut-out score of 8-0. Overall, the game was unexciting. The teams were not very well matched. We very quickly realized that we should shift focus and use the game as practice for the next day’s big match against University High School. We asked the team to work on quick short and long passes, focusing on a two-touch keep away, unless a goal forced itself. The boys responded fairly well connecting passes, collecting balls, and switching point of attack frequently. The team also attacked as a unit, and slowly pushed up the ball to the top third of the field. Most players tried different positions, and we were happy to have Ben Capaldi join the team in the games and not just in practices.
Here, briefly, are the scoring highlights:
In minute 2, Lion took a shot at the net and then finished it on a rebound.
In minute 14, Colton made a nice cross, and Lion scored off a deflection by a defender.
In minute 18, Mark took a well-placed corner kick. Colton pushed it into the net.
In minute 25, Mark crossed the ball to Colton, who scored his second goal.
In minute 28, Mark passed to Nick, who passed to Kam. Kam crossed it to Blake, who buried the ball into the net.
In minute 39, Mark scored unassisted.
In minute 62, Nick scored off a free kick because Taylor was fouled.
In minute 78, Jake sent out a nice ball from the middle to Max. Max drove it for a good twenty yards and took a shot. Taylor scored off the rebound.
