Junior Tapped for Piano Recital at Carnegie Hall
Pianist Chanah Yin ’25 will perform in a solo recital at Carnegie Hall for the American Protégé International Competition of Romantic Music set for March 24, 2024.
Chanah was selected by a four-judge panel based on a submitted audition video of her playing “Clair De Lune” by French composer Claude Debussy. She will play the same song at Carnegie next year.
“I've always wanted to perform at such a prestigious place so just knowing that I get the opportunity makes me really excited but also nervous,” Chanah said. “I know that I have to prepare well enough to play on this big stage.”
Chanah first started practicing piano at four years old and only took a brief break after moving to California. She chose the piano because her parents told her it was the hardest instrument to learn. Listening to Classical music in her spare time helps her find balance and learn how to improve her own technique, Chanah said.
“Playing pieces that I genuinely enjoy, helps me a lot mentally when I’m stressed and I have a lot of homework,” Chanah said. “Sometimes when I'm really tired, I want to take a break from studying, I go home and directly start playing the piano. It’s like a break for me.”
Looking forward to the Carnegie Hall recital, Chanah said she’s grateful to her parents and piano teacher for helping her pursue a music career even when she was just playing tiny recitals for family and friends.
