Global Markets Students Compete in Sage Hill Thunder Dome

Welcome to the Thunder Dome!

Over the past few weeks, students in Teryn Bentley’s Global Markets class have been creating business plans in anticipation of the first ever Sage Hill School Thunder Dome -- a “Shark Tank”-esque simulation where the teams presented their plans to a panel of volunteer judges.

In preparation for the event on February 28, Ms. Bentley introduced her young entrepreneurs to the basics of creating and financing a successful start-up. They learned to evaluate their ideas through market research and competitive analysis to determine if they had a viable plan.

Ms. Bentley and her students are so grateful to Drew Vaden, Kim Harris-Weiner, Rob Cohen and Larry Wilk for participating as the judges and lending their expertise in venture capitalism, technology start-ups and restaurant franchising.

Congratulations to the two winning teams:

"Boo Boo Buddies,” led by seniors Ava LeWinter, Sarah Takallou and Genesis Gonzalez, won for best scalable business plan. They were recognized for their ability to incorporate social entrepreneurism with their idea to produce kid-friendly dental and doctor medical equipment covers in the shape of animals to help make them less intimidating and "scary."

"Big Asian Boba,” led by seniors Matthew King, Paul Lam and William Leong, won for the most implementable business plan. The judges praised them for their idea of a boba truck that targets students by traveling to campuses to sell the popular drinks.
