Parent Education Series Features ‘Hamilton’ Actor, UCLA Professor and More
The lineup for Sage Hill School’s Parent Education Series has been announced for the 2017-2018 school year.

All parents are invited to attend these events, which feature expert guest speakers who will enhance the School’s commitment to providing the community with innovative and educational experiences.

Each Parent Education night begins at 6:30 PM in the Studio at Sage Hill. There will also be a question-and-answer session after each speaker.

“I really hope our parents take advantage of this special series exclusively created for them,” said Mary Robinson, producer of community programming. “ We have exceptional guest lecturers/speakers coming to share, and it’s also a great opportunity to socialize and get one-on-one time with top administrators and other parents.”

Oct. 10, 2017: “Rise Up: American History Through Art and Curriculum”
Actor Colby Lewis from the Tony Award-winning “Hamilton” will appear with Stephen Schumacher, chairman of Sage Hill’s History Department, to discuss 18th century America and its relevance to our students today.

Jan. 9, 2018: “Communication with Loved Ones and Resolving Conflicts”
Dr. Ben Karney, a professor of social psychology at UCLA, will share advice for parents on how to better communicate with their spouse/partner and school personnel and be role models for their teenagers.

Jan. 23, 2018: “In Search of American Character -- From TWILIGHT: Los Angeles to Now”
Actress and playwright Anna Deavere Smith will lead an evening of lecture, performance and conversation with touchpoints on Sage Hill’s English and theater curriculum, storytelling and social justice. She wrote and performed a one-woman play about the 1992 Los Angeles riots. She also received a National Humanities Medal from President Obama in 2013.

Feb. 13, 2018: “Navigating Curriculum at Sage Hill”
Head of School Patricia Merz, Dean of Faculty and Curriculum Matt Balossi, Dean of 9th and 10th Grade College Counseling Greg McCandless and other guests will speak to parents of rising 10th-graders about the Sage Hill curriculum and how to guide students in selecting classes for the 10th grade and beyond.
