Teamwork, Leadership Propel Academic Decathletes Forward
Sage Hill Academic Decathlon team members received several medals during the Academic Decathlon Awards Ceremony on Friday, February 10, 2017. Sage Hill competed in the recent two-day Academic Decathlon event where students write an essay, perform a prepared and impromptu speech, and are interviewed on the first day of competition. On the second day of competition, the students took 30-minute multiple-choice tests in the subject areas of art, language and literature, mathematics, music, science, and social science. This year each area is based on World War II, with the exception of mathematics.

Here are the results from this year’s Academic Decathlon competition:

Senior
  •  Christina Acevedo — No medal this year, but provided great senior leadership
Juniors
  • Juliet (Jo) Farkas — 2nd place in mathematics
  • Ryan Haidarali — 2nd place in social science; 4th place in the interview
  • Emma Rafatjoo — 5th place in the essay
  • Cameron Slater — 1st place in the interview; 5th place in language and literature
Freshmen
  • Ava Asmani — 5th place in the speech
  • Timothy Guo — 1st place in mathematics; 3rd place in social science; 4th place in science; and, 5th place in economics
  • Kelly Hong — No medal this year, but exhibited great effort during her first year of competition
