Lightning Came Out on Fire to Take Down St. Margarets
The Lightning came out on fire as they took the first round 5-1 losing only at #2 doubles 2-6. Sage Hill continued their strong play taking 4 of 6 in the second round to lead 9-3 going into the last round. Sage and St. Margaret's split the last round 3-3 which gave the Lightning a 12 - 6 Academy League victory.
Sage's #1 singles player, Freshman Adam Langevin, swept all three of his singles as did the Lightning's #1 doubles, senior team captain Eric Magliarditi and sophomore Kenan Torlic. Freshman Omead Moini at #2 singles and junior Shayan Emtiaz, each took 2 of 3 matches. Senior David Kim and junior Kian Etedali along with junior Gordon Strelow and freshman Gant Janavs rounded out the scoring by each team taking 1 of 3. "Our freshman are starting to get used to the format and pressure of high school team tennis," said Sage Coach A.G. Longoria. "We still have a lot of improving to do but I am confident that we may be able to shake things up in the coming months."
Sage Hill is now 4-3 overall and 1-1 in Academy League while St. Margaret's is 6-3 overall and 1-2 in Academy League play.
Sage Hill hosts one of the top New York Prep Schools, Horace Mann School, Thursday at The Tennis Club of Newport Beach on Thursday followed by the Lightning Invitational Boys Team Tournament with Crean Lutheran, Tesoro, Sage, and Newport Harbor, Friday and Saturday at The Tennis Club.
