Sage loses close match to Woodbridge
New Warrior Coach Ryan Sabado, taking over for retired legend Rick Barth, won his first match at Woodbridge 10-8. The Lightning won 4 matches in singles and 4 in doubles and were leading 5-0 in a doubles tie-breaker that cold have tied the match. Emily Chow and Karine Yamasaki won 7 straight points to give the Warriors the winning 10th point. Woodbridge’s Stephanie Hazell swept at #1 singles losing only 2 games in 3 sets. The Lightning’s #1 doubles team of seniors Kimberly Brown and Laruen Hsu swept their matches. Woodbridge, ranked #10 in the Orange County Preps Weekly Poll is 1-0 while Sage dropped to 0-4.
Sage host the 9th annual Lightning Invitational with Newport Harbor, Santa Ynez, Cerritos, and Sage Hill this coming Friday and Saturday. The format is the old college format with players allowed to play singles and doubles.
