Girls’ Soccer Nets School’s First CIF Division Championship Title

Girls’ Soccer made school history by winning the program’s first CIF Southern Section championship in Division 4 on March 1.

Sage Hill faced an evenly matched La Mirada in the finals at Fred Kelly Stadium in Orange. The exciting contest ultimately went to penalty kicks. The Lightning edged ahead 4-3 in the shootout to win the CIF-SS Division 4 championship.

Girls’ Soccer Head Coach Issac Sierra said his team members were consistently training for penalty kicks at the end of practices throughout the season.

“It’s something that we preached about… making sure we’re ready for all the little details in the game and understanding [their] importance… because sometimes they go for granted,” Sierra told The Orange County Register. “For us to be practicing them all season long and finally have to do it a couple times this year, it paid off.”

The Lightning (11-3-2) are headed to regional championships on a very positive note.

“We couldn’t be more proud of our Girls’ Soccer team for making school history as CIF Champions,” Director of Athletics Megan Cid said. “These girls put in the hard work all season showing tremendous grit and determination especially under pressure. This exciting win also shows the incredible talent -- athletes and coaches – we have here at Sage Hill School.”

Sage Hill will host the first round of the CIF Regional State Championships at 3:30 PM on Tuesday, March 4 on Ramer Field. GoFan tickets are required for entry.
