Judge Carly Edelstein ‘04 Returns to Sage Hill as Keynote Speaker

By Daniel Langhorne
Judge Carly Edelstein ’04 shared how her experiences as a Sage Hill student put her on a path to the bench during the 2024 Multicultural Symposium keynote on Wednesday, April 17.

In November 2022, Ohio voters elected Edelstein to the Ohio Tenth District Court of Appeals. As one of eight elected district court members, she joins three-judge panels hearing both civil and criminal appeals. After completing her undergraduate degree at Brown University, Edelstein went on to earn a master’s degree in education policy and administration from Loyola Marymount University and law degree from UC Irvine School of Law.

Sage Hill students invited Edelstein to return to her high school and address the entire school community about discovering her purpose in service as a public school teacher, federal court clerk, public defender and ultimately an appellate judge. She enjoyed getting to know several of them after her recent keynote.

"I assume all of these students are already bright, interesting students before they get here but Sage Hill really nurtures that in their students," Edelstein said. "The freedom, the individuality, the creativity that's nurtured here, these kids are going to go on to do absolutely incredible things, whether that's through their careers or the ways they live in the world. It's really a special kind of kid that goes here."

Edelstein lives in Worthington, Ohio, with her husband and their two young children. You can hear her interview with the Lightning Insider podcast on AppleSpotify or Podbean.
