Spring at Sage Unveils New Seminars in Stained Glass, Watchmaking and Mental Healthcare Careers

By Daniel Langhorne
The line-up of seminars slated for Spring at Sage 2023 has added exciting courses that will teach students how to craft a stained-glass window, assemble a watch, and explore career pathways in the mental health field.

Immediately following spring final exams, all students and faculty spend a week participating in an experiential learning program through travel or seminars. Here’s a deeper dive on some of our new seminars.

Stained Glass
This course will teach students all about the basic tools and techniques needed to create their own stained glass artwork. Students will learn about the history of stained glass, design development, and fabrication. They also will have the opportunity to make at least two pieces during this seminar.

Be the Master of Time
Students will select a watch design kit from a variety of styles and then assemble a timepiece themselves. During the seminar, students will learn about the history of time and enjoy some "time-themed" films, games, activities, anime, and more. At the end of the week, students will have a working, high quality watch.

Mental Mentors
This seminar is an introduction to mental health and wellness and exploration of what it means to live a healthy lifestyle. Students will discover mental health careers and dive into the statistics surrounding the nation’s mental health crisis. They’ll learn the importance of being a good friend and how active listening can save lives. This seminar group will visit the UC Irvine Clinical Psychology program and its youth drop-in project.

A parent or legal guardian can register for their student’s preferred seminar starting at 8:30 AM on Wednesday, November 2. Registration will be through Blackbaud in the Sage Hill Portal, and seminars will fill on a first-come, first-served basis.

All seminar prices include transportation and entrance fees, if applicable. Questions related to Spring at Sage should be sent to springatsage@sagehillschool.org.
