Sage Hill Student is Named Ambassador of the Month by Best Buddies California

By: Maurisa Jones
Congratulations to Ben Haworth '25 who was recently celebrated as the Best Buddies California Ambassador of the Month for August 2022!

Best Buddies in California is a nonprofit organization that is dedicated to establishing a global volunteer movement that creates opportunities for one-to-one friendships, integrated employment, leadership development and inclusive living for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD).

Ben serves as the Best Buddies State Ambassador for California and is also a member of the organization's Young Leaders Council -- a group that works to bridge the gap between the student perspective and staff experience for the organization's international initiatives.

He also volunteered his time at the 2022 SoCal Best Buddies Leadership Conference and facilitated a 3-day novice ambassador training where individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities worked with speech coaches in order to work through the speech writing process.

"The speech coach gives guidance and advice to their ambassador. This is an important position to volunteer for since many ambassadors do not initially feel confident writing and presenting their own speeches in front of dozens of people," said Ben. "A speech coach helping them along the way often boosts their confidence in their public speaking ability."

Congratulations on a well-deserved achievement!
