Three Teams Win First Place in CIF-SS Academic Awards Program

Megan Shean and Kyle Wong named Female and Male Student Athletes of the Year.
All of Sage Hill School’s eligible varsity teams qualified once again this year for the CIF-SS Academic Awards program.

To be considered, teams must have a minimum of five student-athletes with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA average (4.0 scale) in the first semester or first two quarters of the 2017-18 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport category by enrollment determines the winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories: 1,500 students and above and 1,499 students and below.

Sage Hill had several notable finishes this year in the team category:

Fifth place
Football

Fourth Place
Girls’ soccer

Third Place
Girls’ lacrosse
Water polo

Second Place
Girls’ golf
Boys’ Swim and Dive

First Place
Baseball
Girls’ Swim and Dive
Boys’ Tennis

The three first place academic team winners will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Los Angeles Angels game at 6:00 PM on Monday, April 25.

Student Athletes of the Year
Additionally, each CIF-SS member school is entitled to name a male and female “Student Athlete of the Year” that must be a senior who has maintained a minimum of a 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale) over the past three years, in addition to earning a letter in at least one varsity sport and participating in extracurricular activities (music, theater, service groups, etc.) This year’s recipients are:

Male Student Athlete of the Year: Kyle Wong

Female Student Athlete of the Year: Megan Shean

“We are thrilled to celebrate all our eligible varsity teams in this great accomplishment along with our two student academic athletes of the year,” said Athletic Director Megan Cid. “This reflects not only the hard work that our student athletes are putting into their sport each and every day, but also the hard work that they put into the classroom. This is a tremendous honor, and we are very proud of all our Lightning student athletes!”
