Mock Trial Team Earns Best Record in School History
Sage Hill School’s Mock Trial Team had an exemplary year, ending with their best record to date: six wins and only one loss. Even in defeat Sage Hill competed at a high level, losing in sudden death in the semifinal round against the eventual champions from University High School.

Sage Hill School has participated in the Mock Trial program in Orange County for over 15 years. Diego Izurieta, the faculty advisor for Mock Trial, credits the year's achievements to his students.

“They worked admirably hard and gave a commendable effort during practices and competitions,” Izurieta said. “This success was mostly due to the leadership skills of our two co-captains, Ali Ansari and Kaylana Lee.”

As the faculty advisor for most of his tenure at Sage Hill, Izurieta said that it is a great honor to lead Mock Trial because he gets to witness the students at their very best.

In all their success and triumph, the team extends a great amount of gratitude to those who continue to support them in significant ways: Mock Trial lawyer coaches Leah Kaufman and Stephanie West, Dean of School Life Dominic Campeau and, of course, the Honorable Judge Lee.

Mock Trial is an academic club that gives students the opportunity to learn about the field of law through simulated court cases tried before a judge. Sage Hill’s team participates in four regional competitions where nearly 1,000 students compete to win a spot in a regional playoff. Mock Trial season typically runs from August to late November and depending on the availability and schedule of the students, the team practices at least once a week.
