Girls' Golf Swings for Unprecedented Success This Season
For the fourth year in a row, the Sage Hill girls’ varsity golf team went undefeated and became league champions.
The team competed in the CIF Southern Section and SCGA Qualifier on Thursday, November 7 at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills. Their fourth-place finish was good enough to advance them to the CIF-SCGA Southern California Girls’ Golf Championship on Thursday, November 14 in Pasadena.
This is the furthest the girls’ golf team has ever made it in CIF post-season play in school history.
Seniors Jennifer Cai, Ashleigh Park and Ava Asmani, sophomores Mahlia Hampton and Elizabeth Casey, and freshman Jessica Wang also qualified for the CIF Individual Championships, where Park placed 2nd and Cai placed 4th overall out of 140 golfers.
If the team places in the top three at the regional championship this week, they would move on to compete in the CIF State Championship at Poppy Hills Golf Course in Pebble Beach on November 19.
“We are so proud of the amazing accomplishments of the girls’ varsity golf team and the dedication that they have shown to their sport and their team,” Director of Athletics Megan Cid said. “The team has come together, united in their competitive spirit and fueled by excellent sportsmanship to make history for girls’ golf at Sage Hill. They are paving the way for future generations of Lightning golfers, and we could not be more proud of this awesome team!”
