Sophomore Wins Awards for Drone Design in London

Incoming 10th grader Adam Yang had an award-winning summer.

Yang was a member of a drone design team from the Topkids Center in Los Angeles. The team traveled to London in July to compete in the Drone Design Competition organized by the British International Education Association (BIEA).

Yang’s team, Zuberi, included four other high schoolers, and they won two awards in London: Best Creativity Award and Best Display (Peers) Award.

“Adam Yang's leadership and contribution in the fixed wing design of the drone was outstanding,” said Chris Chai, director of the Topkids Center.
This year’s theme for the competition was “Fighting Extinction via Drone Technology.” Teams were asked to come up with a drone design to aid in the conservation of an endangered species.

The Zuberi team drone was designed to count the endangered African penguins.
