Spoken Word Poetry Team Wins First Place at OCRYSE

Sage Hill’s spoken word poetry team won first place for the first time in school history at this year’s OCRYSE Poetry Slam Competition.

The contest was held April 13-14 at the Orange County High School of the Arts. OC RYSE is the only performance poetry competition of its kind in the county and features nearly 50 high school students.

The six students on this year’s team will share the $1,000 prize: Alex Tse ‘20, Miles Garcia ‘21, Natalie Lau ‘20, Melodie Qian ‘20, Selene Shankle ‘20 and Angie Yogaratnam ‘20.

“Our students' work stood out as the most original and unique of the two-day event, and their practice in theater enhanced their performances,” said English teacher Arlie Parker.
