Sage Hill Varsity Teams Place in CIF-SS Academic Awards Program

All of Sage Hill School’s eligible varsity teams qualified once again this year for the CIF-SS Academic Awards program.

To be considered, teams must have a minimum of five student-athletes with a minimum of a 3.0 GPA average (4.0 scale) in the first semester or first two quarters of the 2017-18 school year. The highest team GPA in each sport category by enrollment determines the winner. Schools are divided into two enrollment categories, 1,500 students and above and 1,499 students and below.

Sage Hill had several notable finishes this year in the team category:

Fifth place
Baseball
Girls’ basketball
Boys’ water polo

Fourth Place
Boys’ volleyball

Third Place
Girls’ cross country
Girls’ golf
Girls’ soccer
Boys’ tennis
Girls’ track and field

First Place
Boys’ cross country
Boys’ golf

As part of the Academic Awards program, the Southern California Golf Association (SCGA) Junior annually recognizes the top three girls’ golf academic teams with financial grants, and this year Sage Hill’s team was in that top three.

Both of the first place academic team winners, boys’ cross country and boys’ golf, along with the golf grant recipients, the girls’ golf team, will be honored in a pre-game ceremony before the Los Angeles Angels game against the Baltimore Orioles at 6:30 PM on May 1.

Student Athletes of the Year
Additionally, each CIF-SS member school is entitled to name a male and female “Student Athlete of the Year” that must be a senior who has maintained a minimum of a 3.5 GPA (4.0 scale) over the past three years, in addition to earning a letter in at least one varsity sport and participating in extracurricular activities (music, theater, service groups, etc.) This year’s recipients are:

Male Student Athlete of the Year: Noah Cha
Female Student Athlete of the Year: Mary Shin

“We are thrilled to celebrate all our eligible varsity teams in this great accomplishment along with our two student academic athletes of the year,” said Athletic Director Megan Cid. “This reflects not only the hard work that our student athletes are putting into their sport each and every day, but also the hard work that they put into the classroom. This is a tremendous honor, and we are very proud of all our Lightning student athletes!”
