Chemistry Olympiad Team Places Sixth in all of Orange County

Four Sage Hill School students competed against others from Orange County schools in the annual Chemistry Olympiad exam on March 10. The team came in sixth place out of 39, and placed first among private schools.

Each participating school registers four AP Chemistry students to take the exam, which was administered at Irvine Valley College. Ian Grimm, Timothy Guo, Alex Kwon and Ashley Huang represented Sage Hill. Grimm and Guo were only one point away from qualifying to take the National Olympiad exam.

The team will be honored for their sixth place finish at an American Chemical Society dinner in May.

“I’m really proud of them,” said chemistry teacher Anie Robinson. “Those students have been motivated and so curious about the subject from day one of the AP Chemistry class, so I’m happy to see them accomplish this for themselves and the school.”
