Nine Students Recognized for Outstanding Writing Achievement

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards is the oldest, largest and longest-running writing contest for high school students in the United States. This year, Sage Hill had nine students recognized for outstanding writing achievement in a variety of genres including dramatic script, science fiction, personal essay, fiction, poetry and, for the first time ever, critical essay.

Sage Hill students earned 17 awards, which included four prestigious Gold Awards (tying last year’s Sage Hill record). The students who received Gold Awards will move on to receive consideration for honors at the national level.

English teacher Arlie Parker announced the award winners at Town Meeting on Monday, February 5:

Ava Asmani ’20 - Poetry
Joey Cha ’20 - Sci Fi, Dramatic Script (Gold Award)
Darcy Chung ’20 - Personal Essay
Sarah Fischer ’21 - Personal Essay
Camille Hanson ’20 - Critical Essay, two awards for Poetry
Kayla Kiani ’18 - Six total awards, including two Gold Awards
Kayla Kim ’20 - Critical Essay
Mc Kenna Strohmeier ’18 - Personal Essay (Gold Award)
Howard Xuan ’19 - Fiction
