Sage Hill’s New Outdoor Weight Room Opens

Sage Hill’s New Outdoor Weight Room Opens

Just in time for the new year, Sage Hill’s outdoor weight room is officially open and ready for workouts.

The space is in addition to the current weight room, which can accommodate 15 to 20 students at most. With the secondary space, at least 50 students can now work out at the same time.

“After we completed the construction of the tennis courts and the pool, we were able to assess a good spot for another weight room, and it landed on the outdoor courtyard just off of the ceramics room,” said Megan Cid, director of athletics. “It seemed logical as it is in close proximity to the current weight room and easily accessible from all of our athletic facilities and locker rooms.”

The outdoor weight room features retractable walls to allow fresh air to flow in and out and brand new equipment for strength and resistance training, as well as cardio. The area has the same flooring as the current weight room, so weights can be dropped without damage to the floor or the equipment.

“The nice part about the walls being retractable is that once you raise the walls, students can perform exercises outside of the actual weight room space if all the machines and systems are being used,” Cid said. “They can take dumbbells or kettlebells just outside the walls and use that space as well.”

The new weight room will allow for multiple teams to be able to work out after school, which will help with the increased demand on the current weight room schedule.

“We’ve also added some variance to our exercise selection with the new pieces of equipment.” said Ricky Sharpe, assistant athletic director and strength and conditioning coach. “In the end, we should have more well-conditioned student-athletes competing for Sage Hill.”
