Students, Faculty and Staff Attend People of Color Conference in Anaheim

Earlier this month, math teacher Dr. Drew Ishii co-chaired the 30th NAIS People of Color Conference in Anaheim and Bethany Pitassi served as a facilitator for a group of more than 700 attendees. A group of faculty and staff members also attended, and the Sage Hill Poetry Club performed at one of the general sessions.

The mission of the conference is to provide a safe space for leadership and professional development and networking for people of color and allies of all backgrounds in independent schools.

The three-day conference included workshops, performances, networking, affinity groups and guest speakers. Five students also attended the Student Diversity Leadership Conference, held nearby as part of POCC: Henry Lavacude-Cola, Emma Rafatjoo, Erica Roque, Paul Lam and Halah Biviji.

The SDLC is a multiracial, multicultural gathering of student leaders that focuses on self-reflecting, building community, developing effective cross-cultural communication skills and more.
