Debate Team Wins Three First-Place Tournament Awards Over Weekend
The fall competition season for the Sage Hill School Debate team is over, but the team has earned plenty of awards to keep them pumped up for their return to tournaments in January.
The team's latest success came over the weekend, when it competed in two tournaments in two different cities and was awarded with three first-place finishes.
On Saturday, November 11, students participated in the Orange County Speech League at Northwood High School in Irvine. The tournament champion for Public Forum was the team comprised of seniors Jake Laven and Henry Lavacude-Cola. The tournament champion for Lincoln Douglas was junior Luca White-Matthews.
The next day, the team traveled to the Chuck Ballingall Memorial World Schools Invitational at Damien High School in La Verne. The World Schools tournament champion was one of Sage Hill's teams of four: White-Matthews, freshmen Ali Ansari and Jeffrey Gao, and junior Nikan Oshideri.
“They are all remarkable individuals who will be making a mark on this world,” advisor Trudy White-Matthews said. “I am proud of every single one of them.”
