Students Excel in Orange County Poetry Competition

Students Excel in Orange County Poetry Competition
Nine Sage Hill students split into two teams competed in the OCRYSE slam poetry event in March, an annual event in which students perform both classic poems and original response poems.

The two teams consisted of Alex Tse ('20), Nico Collins (’18), Natalie Lau (’20), and Niranjala (Angie) Yogaratnam (’20) on Team 2; and Dylan Dickerson (’18), Taylor Garcia (’18), Miles Wilson (’18), Capri Campeau (’18), and Mackenna Strohmeier (’18) on Team 1.

Team 2 achieved near perfect scores for their performances of classic and original poems. Team 1 made it to the finals by achieving perfect scores on a pair of classic and response poems, and went on to earn third place in the competition out of 16 teams from throughout Orange County. Team 2 also received $500 in prize money for their efforts.

This is the third year out of the four in the contest’s history that Sage Hill School’s Poetry Team has finished in at least the top three. The team is excited about next year and is already preparing for next season.
