Senior Receives Disney's 'Shining Star' Recognition
Senior Lynn Fong was recently chosen as a “Shining Star” for the Disneyland Resort Dreamers & Doers 2016-2017 program. Previously, Sage Hill had a “Shining Star” selected last year from the Class of 2016. The program celebrates the power of possibility and recognizes students who take action to improve their community, home or school.

Fong was chosen for her work with the Sage Hill Sophomore Wellness Program, where she helped create curriculum that would make a difference and resonate with students. Fong's work is part of her Service Learning with the Sage Center’s Wellness Coordinator, Coach Merja Connolly.

“I am very proud of Lynn,” said Coach Connolly. “She has helped grow the wellness program and has had lasting input into the online Sophomore Wellness Program.”

Nearly 100 students from various high schools throughout Orange County were honored as Shining Stars. They represent a unique group of Orange County youth who have made a positive impact in their homes, schools and communities. In honor of their efforts, each Shining Star received a medal of recognition and a $1,000 grant for their high school.

As a member of the Publications Staff and a member of the leadership group Sage Advocates of Multicultural Education (SAME), Fong is committed to enhancing education beyond the typical academic curriculum. “I’m really happy with the work I’m doing,” she said.

Her work helped instill content to help sophomores make the best decisions for themselves and their bodies with topics such as: drug education, body image, sexual orientation, gender identity, and healthy relationships.
