Sage Hill Students Receive Awards from the American Chemical Society
Two Sage Hill students, freshman Nicole Dai and sophomore Matthew Liu, were honored at the American Chemical Society (ACS) awards banquet at the University of California, Irvine, on Tuesday, May 24.

“Recognition for talented science students is crucial and it offers them opportunities to further explore their passion for the sciences as they prepare for their future,” said Sage Hill Science Department Chair Kerry Langdale. “Congratulations to our students who worked extremely hard for these prestigious awards.”

Nicole Dai was recognized for being the top-scorer among Sage Hill students who took the annual First-Year American Chemical Society Exam run by the Orange County Section of the ACS. The exam is open to any first-year chemistry student enrolled in college-prep and honors.

Sophomore Matthew Liu was recognized as the top-scorer from Sage Hill in the local section exam of the International Chemistry Olympiad where high school students from more than 40 schools in Orange County compete. The International Chemistry Olympiad is an annual event where high schools from around the world compete against each other. Competition begins at the local level.

The ACS is the world’s largest scientific society founded in 1876 and chartered by Congress. The organization seeks to promote the public’s perception and understanding of chemistry and the chemical sciences through public outreach programs and provides career development assistance and employment opportunities for science professionals.
