Freshmen Prepare for Service Learning Finale

Freshmen Prepare for Service Learning Finale
The freshman class and their third grade partners from Edward B. Cole and El Sol Academies will fly kites created together during the past year on Wednesday, April 20 at Huntington State Beach. “This event celebrates our service learning program and the connections our ninth graders made with the broader Orange County community,” said John Paulsen, Sage Hill Service Learning Coordinator and English Instructor. “It will be a rewarding and exciting day for everyone,” he added.

The freshman class and their partners worked together to build kites after learning about the science of flying and performing flight experiments. Together, they built and created artwork for their kites. “It was a true learning experience,” said Sage Hill freshman Hannah Romeo. “Not only did we learn how to make kites, but also we learned about the third graders and their experiences.”

Meanwhile, 160 fourth grade students and their teachers from El Sol, Edward B. Cole and Quest Academy will arrive on campus April 20 to construct books of their writings and artwork from this year with Sage Hill sophomores. The fourth graders will tour Sage Hill with their sophomore partners. Some juniors and seniors will help organize and play games with the fourth graders, although the majority of juniors and seniors will be working off-campus on their own service learning projects.
