Sage Hill Defeats Whittier Christian for OC Division Championship in Newport Elks Tournament
The Sage Hill Boys’ Varsity Baseball team won the OC Division of the Newport Elks Baseball Tournament on Saturday, March 12. The Newport Elks competition is the largest high school baseball tournament in California. Teams from four Southern California counties and many of the top teams in the California Interscholastic Federation – Southern Section (CIF-SS) participate.

Sage Hill beat Whittier Christian 6-1 to win the championship. Freshman pitcher Edward Pelc earned the win, and freshman pitcher Ashwin Chona got the save. Senior Conner Bock led the offense. “Winning this tournament is a big accomplishment for us,” said Sage Hill Head Baseball Coach Dominic Campeau. “Everyone played a role in those five wins and it also gave us a chance to bond as a team. This was the best possible way to come together as a team before league play,” Campeau explained.

Other tournament highlights include Sage Hill junior Brett Super throwing a perfect game and striking out four on Thursday, March 10, to help lead the Lightning to the championship game. During that game, senior Conner Bock went two for three with a triple, and senior Tobias Bush went two for three with a double.

Congratulations Lightning!
