Sage Hill Seniors Start TEDx Program

Sage Hill Seniors Start TEDx Program
TEDx, the popular and inspirational spinoff of TED talks, is coming to Sage Hill School this February 26 thanks to seniors Cindy Choi and Kate Kim. As co-founder and licensee of TEDxSageHillSchool, Choi said it was important to both her and Kim to leave a legacy to the School so the entire community could come together and share ideas through her final Service Learning project.

“For the past four years, I’ve been amazed at the diversity and different talents at Sage Hill,” said Choi. “I was very interested in TED talks and I thought it was an extraordinary way for students to share their ideas and be inspired. Both Kate and I thought starting a TEDx event here would be a great gift to leave before we graduate,” she added. The TEDx program supports independent organizers who want to create a TED-like event in their own communities.

Together, Choi and Kim reached out to other Sage Hill students who quickly joined together to get the project off the ground. “We really want the adults in our community to attend. We have some very accomplished people in our community and through this event our students could find a mentor and connect with others,” explained Choi.

The TEDxSageHillSchool team is currently comprised of the following students:

• Cindy Choi
• Kate Kim
• Max Nanula
• Nelson Kim
• Shane Larimer
• Aimee Rowe
• Jafeth Orozco
• Cameron Knollenberg

The theme of February’s event will be “The Big Picture” and it will feature seven speakers, who are still being confirmed, and will run from 4 PM to 8 PM in the Black Box Theater. The Sage Hill TEDx team is recruiting speakers with the help of Sage Hill Head of School Patricia Merz and President Gordon McNeill.
