Sage Hill Senior Selected as Coaches’ Pick for Team USA Cycling

Sage Hill Senior Selected as Coaches’ Pick for Team USA Cycling
In September, Sage Hill senior Amelia “Millie” Tanner was chosen as a coaches’ pick for Team USA for the Junior World Championships in cycling, which raced in an international competition in Richmond, Virginia later that month. The choice put her in the company of athletes who are one step away from being chosen for the Olympics.

The 18-year-old student and professional athlete was elated to be on the team even though her status as an coaches’ pick – also known as an alternate – meant she could only race if another team member was hurt or injured prior to the event. While she didn’t receive a call to fly to Richmond for the international competition because her teammates stayed healthy, Tanner is grateful for the opportunity.

“Being on the USA Junior World Team is an incredible experience because it says they see you as someone who in the future will be on the World’s Team and will be on the Olympic Team with a chance to represent your country,” explained Tanner. “It doesn’t get any bigger than the Olympics, and that’s something I’ve always dreamed about.”

As a professional athlete, with more than 30 sponsors, Tanner is passionate about her sport, her career and her future. “Sage Hill has provided me with the opportunity to pursue my passions while also letting me be a student, too. The School has been incredible in helping me with my cycling career,” said Tanner.

She plans on attending college next year and wants to have a career in sports broadcasting while also continuing to race.
