Sandy Irani
Sandy Irani (2016) is a professor of computer science at the University of California, Irvine.
Her research interests sit at the intersection of mathematics and computer science, and more recently, physics. She uses mathematical techniques to develop and analyze algorithms for problems such as web cache management, power optimization and CPU scheduling. Recently, she has been working in the area of quantum computation and information. Sandy teaches classes at UCI that range from 400-student lower-division undergraduate classes to small research seminars for PhD students. Several years ago, she completed work on a web-based, interactive text on Discrete Mathematics that is now in use by thousands of students at more than 100 universities. Sandy received her B.S.E. degree in Electrical Engineering and Computer Science from Princeton University in 1986 and her PhD in Computer Science from the University of California, Berkeley in 1991. She has been on the faculty of UC Irvine since 1992, including five years as chair of the Computer Science Department. Sandy lives in Newport Beach with her husband, Bill Warden, and their two children, Matt Warden (’17) and Alice Warden (’19).
