Advising at Sage Hill

A central element of the Sage Hill School mission is to help students learn about themselves and about how to relate effectively with others in the community. The advisory program provides that opportunity, by enabling students to develop a close and nurturing relationship with a faculty member within a small, single gender, advising group. Faculty advisors are available to students for problem-solving, support and individual guidance throughout their high school career.
The Role of the Advisor

The role of the advisor is to offer assistance, support and advice with regard to each student’s academic program. In addition, advisors work to help students develop as responsible individuals within the scope of their experiences at Sage Hill School, and to balance their extracurricular activities and the many aspects of their non-academic lives. Advisors establish a sound relationship with their advisees through regular and frequent meetings.

Structure of Advisory Program

· Individual Meetings with Advisees: 4 times a year following each grading period
· Advisory Group Meetings: 1-2 times a week for a total of approximately one hour.
· Advisory Buddy Group Meetings: Each group of advisees has a "buddy group" in their same grade level to discuss topics with a mix of boys and girls.
· Academic Planning Meeting: In May of each year the advisee’s parents are invited to an advisee/parent/ advisor meeting to plan the student's schedule for the next academic year.
