Welcome to Sage Hill School.
When students become part of our Sage Hill community, we fully appreciate that we are entrusted with their lives at a critical developmental juncture. This is why so much of our focus is on the classroom experience and student development. We offer our students a rich and dynamic curriculum designed to stimulate independent, creative and critical thinking. We encourage them to participate in athletic competition, to explore their artistic abilities and to engage in the world beyond high school through service learning, outdoor trips and global travel.
Our outstanding faculty spends countless hours to ensure an experience that maximizes each student’s potential. Through our various programs such as the 9th Grade Experience, Service Learning, and the Advisory Program, our students are given the personal touch that allows them to become the best version of themselves. Couple this with an accepting and encouraging community and it is clear, that day in and day out, our students are given the opportunity to transform their lives.
Some of my proudest moments as Head of School are when our Sage Hill alumni return to our campus and speak about following their various passions, in college and in life beyond. While it is true that our students are accepted into a wide range of outstanding colleges, the fact that Sage Hill has given them the tools to be successful in life makes their time here at Sage Hill that much more valuable.
I feel so fortunate to be a part of this dynamic, vibrant community. We are blessed with a beautiful campus and outstanding facilities where we are inspired each day. Within the pages of this website you will learn more about Sage Hill’s curriculum, programs, activities, and culture. We look forward to the opportunity to share our school and hope you will visit the campus and experience the Sage Hill difference.

Head of School
For the last decade, Gordon J. McNeill has been instrumental in shaping the past, present, and future of Sage Hill School. In 2001, Mr. McNeill joined the Sage Hill community as Dean of Students, where he was responsible for nurturing an emerging school community while maintaining honor, discipline, and safety for over 400 students in grades nine through twelve. As the Dean, Mr. McNeill helmed the creation of the school’s Honor Committee, Student Handbooks, and Leadership Retreats. In addition, Mr. McNeill served as an Advisor, Service Learning Site Coordinator, and Boys' Basketball Head Coach and coordinated all assemblies, student orientations and student clubs and activities. Mr. McNeill has also served as a key member of the Administrative Council, Admission Committee, School Life Committee, and the Community Support Committee. As a result of Mr. McNeill’s efforts, his commitment to the school’s mission, and his pivotal role in shaping the Sage Hill community, his position was renamed Dean of School Life in 2005.
In 2008, Mr. McNeill was named Interim Head of School. Shortly thereafter, after a Search Committee recommended him for the permanent post, Mr. McNeill was named the Head of School. Under his leadership the Studio at Sage Hill opened its doors, not only to serve the academic needs of the school but also to connect Sage Hill with the greater Orange County community. At the conclusion of his first year as Head of School, Mr. McNeill helped guide the school through a thorough strategic planning process. The culmination of that plan has given the school a strong vision for the future with particular focus on a dynamic curriculum, financial sustainability, and the usage of the school campus for the broader community. He continues to serve as a ninth grade advisor and Service Learning mentor.
Mr. McNeill holds a B.A. in history from the University of California, San Diego, a California Single Subject Credential in Social Science and a master of arts degree in Independent School Leadership from the Klingenstein Center at Teacher’s College, Columbia University. He has been inducted into the UCSD Ring of Honor for his accomplishments in basketball and he also played professional basketball in Australia. Before joining Sage Hill’s faculty, Mr. McNeill received the Buster Creely Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2001, while he was a social sciences teacher at Corona Del Mar High School. Prior to his career as an educator, Mr. McNeill was the general manager for Pacific Business Systems in Irvine, California.
Mr. McNeill resides in Newport Beach with his wife, Dr. Anne Marie McNeill, and their four children: Gordon, Jr., Gabriel, Grace, and Gavin.
